Platform Modernization
Rebuilding Amplify.com into a scalable, governed, and performance-oriented web platform. This modernization work established the foundation supporting experimentation systems, semantic discovery architecture, and AI-ready structured content.
Overview
As Amplify.com expanded to support a growing portfolio of curriculum products and marketing initiatives, the existing platform required modernization to improve performance stability, publishing scalability, accessibility alignment, and long-term governance readiness.
I led efforts to evolve the site’s architecture, component structure, publishing workflows, and performance practices to support sustainable growth across both marketing and product discovery experiences.
These initiatives positioned the platform to support experimentation systems, structured discovery improvements, accessibility compliance goals, and future AI-ready content architecture.
The Opportunity
Amplify.com supported a complex curriculum portfolio with increasing publishing demand across product marketing, lifecycle campaigns, and educator evaluation pathways. However, the platform required improvements across:
- Publishing workflow scalability
- Component-based page construction
- Technical performance stability
- Accessibility alignment across templates
- Governance around media and content standards
- Structured support for experimentation workflows
- Cross-team page-build coordination processes
Rather than approaching these challenges as isolated rebuild tasks, I led modernization as a platform evolution initiative supporting long-term discovery and lifecycle growth.
Strategy
I implemented platform modernization across four foundational layers.
Transformation Timeline
Phase 1 —
Component-Based Publishing Infrastructure
Improved scalability and consistency of page construction by supporting adoption of structured Gutenberg block workflows.
This included:
- Supporting transition toward component-based page construction
- Improving reusability across template modules
- Strengthening alignment between design and build patterns
- Reducing legacy page construction dependencies
- Supporting editor adoption of structured content blocks
Impact: Improved publishing consistency and reduced friction across cross-team page development workflows
Phase 2 —
Technical Performance And Site Health Improvements
Introduced governance practices supporting long-term performance stability across discovery and evaluation pathways.
This included:
- Identifying and resolving redirect chains and broken links
- Improving metadata coverage across templates
- Reducing script overhead affecting page load performance
- Supporting improvements to https consistency
- Improving core web vitals readiness across key surfaces
Impact: Improved crawlability, performance reliability, and technical readiness across curriculum discovery pathways
Phase 3 —
Accessibility-Aligned Platform Governance
Supported platform alignment with accessibility expectations across both usability and interpretability dimensions.
This included:
- Supporting accessibility audit remediation planning
- Improving template-level accessibility alignment
- Introducing alt-text governance standards
- Supporting accessibility statement implementation coordination
- Strengthening alignment between accessibility and discovery signals
Impact: Improved accessibility readiness across templates while strengthening interpretability across search and answer environments
Phase 4 —
Workflow And Platform Governance Systems
Improved coordination between marketing, engineering, analytics, and content stakeholders through structured platform workflows.
This included:
- Creating standardized page-build intake processes
- Supporting structured publishing documentation for internal teams
- Improving coordination with engineering around dev ticket escalation
- Supporting vendor alignment across implementation priorities
- Introducing governance around media specifications and template usage
Impact: Shifted the platform from reactive page production toward structured platform stewardship
Platform Enablement Systems Introduced
To support long-term modernization outcomes across teams, I implemented supporting infrastructure including:
- Component-oriented publishing workflow alignment
- Structured page-build intake processes
- Media specification standards for design collaboration
- Accessibility governance coordination with legal and engineering
- Vendor alignment supporting implementation priorities
- Analytics dashboard foundations supporting platform visibility
Impact: Improved platform maintainability, publishing scalability, and cross-team coordination readiness
